There have been some codes in the past (but not recently) that were good for multiple rentals, but usually not during the same month.
There have also been codes (like MARCH), that have worked in more than once, but only in different years.
The best thing to do is experiment and see what happens! :)
I think these codes are great , but they charge me sometimes! It shows no charge on the redbox, but then a 1.00 shows on bill~ why? Is there something i'm doing wrong? Can you not use the same credit card? help!.....

However, when I go in to the store WITHOUT reserving it online, the option to rent or even see the title isn't up on the screen. Why is this? Do they keep a few titles "hidden" for people that rent online and pick up? Or is there another reason for this?
4. Can more than one promo code be used in one day by the same person/credit card? Could I rent using a code, check out, then rent another using a promo code, then check out, etc.??? How does that work?

Generally, you can only use a code once per credit card. But, read on...
Others have reported this in the past. I think there are two possibilities:
1) You didn't actually get charged $1.00, Redbox just put an "authorization" for the $1 on your card. They do this to make sure your card is valid.
Sometimes this shows up on your online statement, depending on your bank.
2) You previously used the code on the same credit card, but the machine didn't know that until after you completed the transaction.
This happens because you enter the code (and it is accepted) before you swipe your card. Usually, the machine will tell you that you have already used that code, but it may not ALWAYS tell you.
Do you have Redbox send you an email receipt? If not, you should. If you do, you can always check the receipt for what it says.
Also, be sure you didn't return the movie late (after 9pm), or you will be charged for the extra day.
Hope this helps. While I cannot be 100% sure what is happening, I think this covers most of the possibilities.
I will attempt to answers these the best I can. Remember, I can only speculate on certain things, and you should contact Redbox if you need a definitive answer.

You were trying to rent a movie that wasn't released yet.
You will often see entries for the New Releases coming out the next Tuesday in the Redbox, but will not be able to rent them. You will notice that it says: "Release Date: [sometime in the future]" on these entries when you view them.
I think Redbox should handle this differently, as it is often a point of confusion for many users. Perhaps some "Coming Soon" text that is clear even before a user sees the movie details.

From what I understand, they keep an extra copy for walk-up traffic to the box, that online users cannot rent. They do this make sure their walk-up traffic has a good selection of movies, which is better for business.
It is quite possible that from the time you saw it online to the time you got to the box, someone else had reserved it online or rented it directly from the box.

Yes.
Now, let me qualify that a bit. The way Redbox handles their codes is really not 100% known by us, the users. It appears that sometimes a redbox will start "throttling" code use if that particular box is getting a lot of codes used and/or tried.
So, while in general the answer is definitely "Yes", sometimes it will not work in practice.

On the insiderredbox website there are various colors on the codes, what does that mean?
This is a great question!
Green: This means the code has a trend of working recently.
As members of the community report a code working (or not), we keep of history of this, and if a code is reported working 4 out of 5 times in a row, it will get the green highlight.
Yellow: This means this is a new code, and has only been reported working by one user.
As soon as someone else reports the code working (or not working), it will lose the yellow highlight.
I know I should explain this on the Redbox Codes page, and I will do so when I relaunch the site with the new design.

I see that when logging into the site you say that there are redbox codes that allow 5 dvd rentals at one time. How will we know what those codes are, how often are they released during the year, and how do they work at the redbox kiosks? Thanks again for your reply.
I have recently opened up comments in the Redbox Codes section to allow everyone to share any special information they have regarding codes. So, if there are special "super-codes", we will be able to let each other know about and how to use them.
The only code that I have ever seen that allowed the 5 rentals was the code SANTA, which worked during the holidays in 2005 and 2006.
I will be updating the Redbox Codes section in the near future to be more clear on this type of information.

This is just a basic example off the top of my head. Of course, bar graphs and pie graphs are optional, but strongly suggested. Sure, it's a lot of coding, but it's all very doable database stuff. You'll probably deem this idea as unnecessary, pointless and overdetailed, but you asked for suggestions so there it is! And while I'm at it, I'd like to also suggest another unnecessary, pointless, overdetailed feature - A Google maps mashup to include user submitted photos of Redboxes!

Great suggestion on the more detailed Code detail page. I am actually making some changes to the code system over the next few weeks, and I will be implementing some of your ideas.
Regarding the Google maps mashup, it seems like this could be done using Maps and Flickr, but would require a lot more photos from users. If you are interesting in implementing this, I would be happy to include it.

You can overcome this feature (which yes, is to prevent spam) by creating an account and logging in.
This will allow you to post multiple uses of a code, as well as keep track of your code usage for you.
A script showing codes would be fantastic but a banner redirecting would be good also.

Problem: I never received my password after registering for the site.
This has been a common problem in the past for some users, and because of your post, I finally got to the bottom of it.
The problem has been that AT&T;/BellSouth has been blocking email from this site. I have contacted them and they have told me that they have removed the block.
So, if you do not receive your password after registering (or using the "Forgot my password" link) then, try this:
1) Try again. Please try at least twice before reporting the problem.
2) Check your spam folder. Sometimes stuff gets sent there, as much as we try to keep that from happening.
3) If none of the above works, leave a comment here and make sure you use the same email address in the comment form that you are experiencing problems with. I will look at it and get back to you.

Sounds a bit shady to me. The guy is probably getting the codes from this site and giving them to whoever pays him $40.
I would stay away, but if you feel like wasting $40, feel free to share what you get here.
Also, looks like the retrieve lost password isn't working. It generates the following error:
The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function...

Two weeks ago I received and code "MLKING" but it expired because as a newbie I was unaware of freebies expiring, there was nothing in email to indicate this.
I must go home to get it then it's very late to go back to the nearest inehurst, Or how about issuing the codes earlier in the day?

I always try to remember to submit my experience with codes the next day.
Couple of suggestions:
1. It would be great to have a mobile version of the codes page, so some of us can use our Blackberrys to check any new codes that have been posted.
2. If we were able to submit our code tests (success/failure) using emails (following a certain format, ofcourse), or even thru a form that has a small enough footprint to be able to work on a mobile browser, it would help a lot.

Regarding a mobile version of the codes page (and this site), it is something that has been requested a few times, and something I am ultimately interested in doing. So, it is on my list.
Of course, this goes for the submitting of codes, too.
If I remember correctly it was a double-sided disc? Just flip it over and play the other side.
Which leads me to surmise that this website is indeed owned by redbox also.

Also, I would imagine that they do not come in the original case, as the Redbox machine can only vend the special cases it stores.
I'm having a problem with my account on your site here. I've been getting the Monday updates in my email with no problem, however when I try to log in to the Inside Redbox site, it won't accept my password. Let me say that it might help if I actually remembered my password, but on further review of the email I got when I registered initially, the message that was supposed to contain my password was blank so I never actually got a password to being with and consequently, couldn't actually forget.
Anyway, I clicked the lost password link on the log in page and entered my email address. The confirmation email that someone was trying to reset my password came through just fine and I clicked the confirmation link. I was sent another message that was supposed to contain my password, but again, it too was blank.
I did this a couple times and each time the email that was supposed to contain my new password came back with nothing in it. At one point when I clicked the confirmation link I got an error message that said "Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid."
I'd really like to be able to keep track of the codes I use. This feature seems really useful, if I could get into it. Any suggestions?

The only good solution is a custom codes page that works well with mobile phones. I also have an iphone, and do notice it can be a bit slow on EDGE, but not so bad that it bothers me too much.
The mobile page is near the top of my list for improvements, though, and I appreciated all of your suggestions. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

How do I stop the text messages to my cell phone?
Alternatively, you can always call Redbox at 1-866-REDBOX3 and they could probably take care of it for you.
I have seen many people return their dvd and walk away. The redbox will flash a message that the dvd is returned successfully and the customer walk away. On some occasion the Redbox machine will spit the DVD back because the DVD was put in the case with the barcode on the bottom. If the next customer is honest, the next customer will fix the problem and try again or they make just walk with the DVD and the other customer is stuck with the $25.00 charge for not returning the DVD.. Lesson learn. After putting the DVD in the return slot, wait until the screen return to the original beginning screen to make sure the DVD is returned successful.

However, I have found that these sometime arrive when I am in a meeting and forget to turn my ringer off because I do receive other calls that need attention.
Is there any way that I can get off of the text messageing list and just receive the e-mails?

In the login window I entered my user name and then selected "Get new password" and followed the prompts.
A message was sent to my email address with a hyper link to reset my password. When I select the hyper link the page says
"Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Apache/1.3.41 Server at www.insideredbox.com Port 80"
I have gotten this response every time I have tried for the past week.

There is a quirk in the Red Box system.
If I reserve a movie on line and try to pick it up using the free promo code I can not. Apparently being that the movie is reseved for me it is not listed on the Red Box display. Can you help? Or maybe enlighten me. Thanks

I personally hate it when they put that foreign crap in there like The Kite Runner or anything that is subtitled.
Recently where my sister lives they have had some credit cards stolen. Could you tell me if this situation is being resovled since the April warning? Is there something we should notice to make sure our Redbox is safe before using it? I am wondering if anyone know of it still going on and what else we can do to make sure we are secure...

after you hit rent a movie, at the bottom left is a button marked rent with promo code, hit that and enter the code, if it is valid, it will bring up the movies, or before pressing checkout, hit the button to the left marked promo code, if it takes the code it will show $1.00 discount and the code entered, hope this helps.

If you have never rented from redbox use the code "redbox" you can only use it the first time you use a credit card at a redbox location.

Although I would try placing a higher balance on the debit card. Redbox charges a max of $25 for a movie, maybe if you have a min of $25 for each movie you rent at a time it will work. If not just get a regular debit card and keep just enough money in it to keep it open and only use it for redbox.

I wanted to let you know that I am a Redbox employee and I wanted to tell everyone that what you are doing here is ILLEGAL!!
You think that you won't get caught? Well you will I have forwarded your whole website to the CEO of Redbox. What you are doing is going to make it harder for all of us to enjoy movies for $1. Eventually by either cheating the system..(which is impossible by the way) or by giving people the wrong codes will drive the company to protect itself which in turn my cost more for you.
redbox is a great service and should stay that way. You giving out company confidential information is very dangerous. YOU DONT WORK FOR REDBOX, YOU ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH REDBOX, SO WHY MISLEAD PEOPLE.
We at Redbox work very hard to make sure EVERYONE has a chance to see all movies. DON'T RUIN IT.
Do I think I won't get caught? This site has been around for nearly 3 years and Redbox CEO (Gregg Kaplan - you don't even know his name?) is aware of it, as well as many other members of the Redbox executive team. This site it no way suggests "cheating the system" or any such nonsense.
I agree 100% that Redbox is a great service. I personally use it often and recommend it to others. Obviously this site is not affiliated with Redbox, and it is spelled out many times all over the site. There is certainly no "misleading" going on here.
Most likely, you don't really work for Redbox, and are just a troublemaker. You are not the first, and won't be the last. In meantime, I and the many thousands of users of this site will continue to enjoy Redbox and the great service they provide.
is there any way we can get the guys at redbox to, if there’s an option, get the “unrated” or “extended” versions of some of the movies they put in the redbox?
I know i personally like to see the unrated versions of movies that offer that option on dvd. for some odd reason, redbox only gets the standard theater versions, i.e. “drillbit taylor”. movie stores have the “unrated extended survival edition”. who do we talk to? whats up with this?
others include: good luck chuck, meet the spartans, semi-pro…
So, while I cannot be 100% sure on this, that is why I heard they stopped carrying the unrated versions.

Codes are removed when they are reported failing over a certain threshold. It did seem to be a valid code, but I couldn't even figure out where and under what circumstances it was valid.
Apparently, most people who tried it got an "invalid code" message, or at least reported it that way.

I think it would be a good idea to put above the code entry box a disclaimer that goes something like "If you called redbox to report a non working dvd and they provided you with codes, those codes are one time use only, please do not enter them here." So that we can cut down on the number of useless codes that get entered.
Has anyone come across a Redbox location lookup tool based on current location for your iPod Touch/iPhone?
I had a dickens of a time finding a Redbox location to return a movie the other day. I wasted alot of time and gas!

McD's knew about it and said it'd been that way for a few days. If they had another kiosk a lot of people wouldn't have had to find the next location.. i bet they had different selections in each kiosk too or were they identical i wonder.

I am new to "RB Insider" and received a code for wednesday only, 8/13/08. It showed up in my in-box too late for me to be able to go to town and rent a dvd. Earlier, if possible, would be better... atleast before 3:00pm EST. I have also tried all the codes that were listed for my state, NY, and Non of them worked.
I know that the Kiosk I use is on-line ready. I do not know how to get ..." All The Codes I Can Use"... like it says on the site.
That would be nice as I try to view 3 or 4 DVD's per week. I am cutting back on that as the cost is adding up too fast for my budget. I don't know if you would care to comment back to me with any helpful info to get additional up-to-date codes?? Thanks
